Professional Development Plan
The Future as an Advanced Practice Nurse
As an advanced practice nurse with a Master’s degree in Leadership and Management, I plan to incorporate the leadership principles that I learned in school to my current role as a nurse manager. I have gained insight on a macro level that will help me be a better leader on the micro level. I want to be a regular user and encourage the use of evidence based practice in solving leadership and clinical issues. As well as refine my leadership skills to do a better job at engaging and empowering my nursing team. An initial focus will be to develop a succession plan and actively provide mentorship for emerging leaders on my unit. I plan to work closer with the finance team to continue to learn and apply principles that will allow my unit to run more effectively and cost efficient. The direct beneficiaries of my knowledge and abilities will be the nursing team, the patients and I. I gain satisfaction by watching my team succeed and overcome the constraints of healthcare.
